FG reveals strategy against poverty

The Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs held its stakeholders’ retreat to develop a strategic plan for 2019 to 2023 agenda.

The Minister of Special Duties and Inter-government Affairs, George Akume said this on Monday in Lagos during the retreat themed: “Strategies for actualisation of the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs.”

Akume, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Festus Daudu, said the ministry was created to bring government closer to the grassroot using the ministry as a tool to reach out to the people.

“It is a fact that the creation of the ministry is to improve good governance and also realising the vision of the President by uplifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.

“This project will be executed through the ministry department and agency of the Federal Government which will be represented at the state level with a proper assessment.’’

Akume said the ministry is to engender development and to boost government activities across various sectors.”

“I would like to assure Nigerians that this government is working very hard to put the economy on the right track to ensure sustainable growth. We have already begun to see appreciable improvements in some sectors of the economy.

“This ministry also has been identified as one of the key drivers of the economy going forward and therefore, the government hopes that the outcome of this retreat will contribute significantly towards building a sustainable future for Nigeria.”

The Director-General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Lanre Gbajabiamila, said the development of the strategic plan was not only a landmark stride but also an avenue for well meaning Nigerians to collaborate with the government.

“Developing a strategic implementation plan for the ministry requires a truly collaborative effort and the National Lottery Regulatory Commission is committed to ensuring the successful implementation of this plan,” he said.

Daudu added that the outcome would go a long way in actualising the ministry’s mandate towards moving the country to the next level in line with Mr President’s agenda.
