The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha has visited a former Nigeria's Vice President, Dr Alex Ekwueme, in a hospital in London.
A statement issued on Monday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said Mr Mustapha conveyed President Muhammadu Buhari's goodwill message to the former Dr Ekwueme during the visit.
"Upon approval by President Buhari, Dr Ekwueme was rushed to the hospital in an air ambulance in what was described as a critical condition.
"The SGF, who was in London before Dr Ekwueme's arrival, was received by his spouse, Mrs Helen Ekwueme on behalf of the Ekwueme family.
"Mr Mustapha told the Ekwueme family that the President and all Nigerians are praying for the speedy recovery of the elder statesman, adding that he believed that the doctors were doing their best," the statement read.
The SGF is visiting the former vice president barely two weeks after President Buhari approved the immediate medical treatment of Dr Ekwueme abroad.
Mr Shehu had said in a statement that the approval followed a brief received by the President over the health condition of the former vice president.
"The approval covers the immediate charter of an Air Ambulance for the emergency movement and the cost of treatment," the presidential aide had said in the statement.
An online publication had also reported that Ekwueme collapsed at his residence in Enugu State and was rushed to a hospital.
